Easter Thoughts

Easter Monday and we have far too many Easter Eggs and Hot Cross Buns to count. As is typical here in England, especially on a Bank Holiday, it is cold and rainy and yet I find myself contemplating the events of over 2000 years ago. For so many people, Easter weekend is nothing more than another opportunity to eat drink and be merry, after all Creme Eggs are only around for a short while. Tomorrow the country will return to the daily rituals of work, commuting and housework and nothing will have changed. But 2000 years ago a man died on a cross, wrongfully convicted by an illegal court that wanted Him silenced forever. That one event literally changed the world and reconciled us with our loving Creator. One man's sacrifice on a cross opened the door to a homecoming that had been planned before the foundations of the world. The events of "Good Friday" seemed like a hopeless and pathetic end to a 3 year ministry which had failed on almost every single meaningful level. The Jewish nation were still slaves to the Romans and utterly and hopelessly lost and yet still looking for their Messiah. If you believe the lyrical message in Andrew Lloyd Webber's hit musical Jesus Christ Superstar then things got badly out of hand and Jesus was just a well meaning but naive victim of the shifting allegiances that dominated the Roman empire. If Jesus was nothing more than a man, well, His story is one of failure and delusion. Not much to remember and certainly nothing worth celebrating.

But Jesus is so much more than a man, He is God's one and only Son and His story didn't end with his death. The historical evidence is undeniable, the prophecies and specific details of how Jesus would die documented 700 years before by Isaiah. This was no accident, this was an astonishing rescue plan that brought God down to man and forever offers salvation to a lost and broken humanity. If you trust in Jesus then His perfection, His sinless life means literally everything to you. This weekend I am again in awe of the love that means I stand free and blameless in God's eyes but more than that. I am now a child of God and I owe Him my life. Easter weekend is cause for celebration because I am free from addiction and a believer in Jesus Christ who is alive.

So why you might ask, am I writing this on a website that is all about music and soundtracking. Well quite simply, my music needs to point to Christ, it needs to resound with the gratitude that I feel when I think about the Cross. My music needs to point people to the risen Lord that wants to know them. Every note should resonate with the power of the cross and the hope of the Resurrection. My music must proclaim that Jesus IS ALIVE. Happy Easter everyone
